launch failure

Post by noroshi »

hi,

a while ago i made an iso back home. im pretty sure it is the win95 netmech edition. i followed the youtube installation instructions for xp and patched it accordingly. everything works fine until i attempt a mission launch. i get one of those "send error report" messages. im not sure if i'm missing something?

installed the best performance and net mech
set compatability mode for 95
at this point the game wont start
patched to 1.1 version (not sure if this is necessary)
used the Mech2XPv3.exe patch
at this point everything runs fine (graphics, video, sound, etc...) until i "launch" to a mission the game crashes

i appreciate any help. i feel im very close to getting it to work...

thanks!

afraid your machine is one of the many mech2 95 might not work on.
That is not a bad thing since you have the netmech edition. I would highly suggest that you use the DOS version it is much much better than the 95 version. It does not crash as often and takes half the time to setup if you are on XP 32bit.

If that fails there is always the DOSBOX solution...

anyway for the 95 version you could always try using the hook on top of the patch... it may fix it if your lucky.. probably not though. You will have to mess around with the startup commands on the shortcut though. disable /-mechlab and /-startup when you are creating the shortcut.

As i said though I would highly suggest that you drop the 95 version it is too much of a hastle and you cannot even use it for multiplayer anymore. (least if you want to play with the community)

i got dos working perfectly using dosbox. i played through the first wolf clan mission. everything worked perfectly fine. the only problem is that music wont play and i cant hear any voices. i can hear the voice of the mech computer and everything before the missions, but i cant hear the instructor's voice in the training mode or of any one else in the mission. has anyone else had this problem before? its kind of strange...

thanks

sadly no, I have never encountered such an issue with dosbox.
You are using the .cue file and it is mounted correct?

I think you need to read the DOSBOX Mech 2 install guide or watch the video which covers both the DOS & DOSBOX method.

The cue file has to do with the virtual cd you must create for the game to run properly in dosbox normally just mounting the disc in dosbox does not work properly.
