By downloading this you affirm you own MechWarrior 2.
As someone that still has his origional purchased copy of the Origional Netmech Dos CD I feel that I must mention that the DOS version of NetMech is a stand alone product and does not require Mech 2 31cc in order to function properly.

It does require that it be installed in the same folder as MW2 31cc in order to use custom configured mechs howecer. Of course I am going by the fact that I am using the Origional CD Installed products and not the downloaded version(s).

This has been a Public Service announcement.

Thank you for your time.

I have split this part of the discussion into a new thread because I don't want people to get confused by what you write.

The NetMech download on our website was edited and may only be used by people who own MW2, that is why there is a disclaimer. It's just a legal matter, nothing technical.

If both games are installed in the same folder, you don't have to copy the files between the MEK folders, but both games may reside in different folders. Extracting the NetMech download into a MW2 installation will corrupt your MW2 installation. This may be possible with the original version, however, I have not tested it.

It is exactly as Skyfaller said, the download was slightly altered and that is why there is the disclaimer.
Yes, netmech has been and always will be free, but still with the alternation its not exactly the same thing because of what is included in the package.

It was not my intention to cause any sort of problems. I was just wondering why the Disclaimer was posted about the need to "OWN" MW2 31cc before acquireing netmech.

As I stated in my above post. I have a Retail version of DOS Netmech. It Requires you to Install the 1.1 Dos Patch(included on the netmech cd) if you wish to install it directly into your 31cc folder. If you do infact install Dos-Netmech into your 31cc folder you will automatically have access to all of your custom configs from your single player game without having to copy and paste your MEK folder from 31cc to a seperate netmech install. I remember the bygone days of Lan Partying with this title.

However, Netmech off the CD can also be installed as a stand alone product without needing 31cc-dos installed. The drawback is that you will not have a mechlab to costum config your mechs.

Why anyone would want to install it into a seperate folder is beyond me.

Once again I apologize if I caused any problems as it was not my intention to do so.

thank you for your time.
