Installing GBL through DOSBOX???

Hello all. After having been a mech2.org stalker for quite a while and reading all the wonderful help on this website I've finally found a question I can't seem to find answered. I've had MW2 and GBL installed before but never through Dosbox and just the other day I managed to install Mech2 WIN95 (retail copy) Mech2 DOS(DLed copy) and Mech2 Dos thru DosBox all working on the same machine. Now, my MW2 Pentium Edition doesn't have the DOS installer so I use the DLed copy ( I own the original and GBL and Mercs all retail so don't get angry! I just want them to work properly) and installed through DOSBOX. Now I'm trying to get GBL installed through DOSBOX, but it asks for the MW2 CD at the beginning of install and I can't for the life of me get it to recognize it.

I've tried mounting the MW2 CD, putting in my retail CD, both at the same time, opening another instance of DOSBOX with the Mech2 cd mounted in DOSBOX and still nothing. Now, I could just install my Mech2 retail and GBL retail but DOSBOX is the most stable option available. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Well, pretty much as far as I know there is no way to install GBL via DOSBOX.
Mainly because as you said the disc is not detectable.

Mechvm may be able to help though, but I am not sure since I have never installed GBL that way.
I always install it via XP directly when I try to install GBL..

Sorry that I am unable to give you more suggestions than those two.

Ah well. I'll just have to go through Windows. Thanks though!

Installing through Windows may not work on 64-bit Windows.

I have attached a mini-installer that should set up things up for you. Use like this:
  • Unzip in a DosBox subfolder
  • Mount GBL CDROM
  • Navigate to the DosBox folder with the installer
  • Invoke the installer like this: install <CDROM drive> <install dir>, for example: install d:\ c:\GBL
  • Run GBL from the installation directory (GBL's CDROM must be mounted)
  • Optionally, create a BAT file to mount the CDROM and launch GBL
