Mech 2 on Vista

Hello!

I have looked through this forum for a while now looking for a solution, but ): no luck.

I am running Vista x32 OS.

I have a mounted image of Mech2 on the virtual drive H:\

I tried installing through DOSbox first, but eventually gave up and manually installed via _MINST.exe.

After that, I changed the MECH2.EXE to compatability mode for 95, fixed the resolution, and run as administrator. After all this, I got the error that others have gotten in the past - the screen goes black for a few seconds then quits.

I found out how to work "Hook," and I set up the shortcut as was shown in another thread. I double click on it, hook runs and launches the program (by the way, do I put things like heaphack at the end of the two file locations? if my experience with other programs is valid then the answer is yes but I didn't get to the point of using this). The screen goes black for 2 seconds, then shuts down and the hook program says "process terminated" or something along those lines.

I have removed Mech2 from my system and want a fresh start. I have no idea what people are talking about when they say "Dos version" of Mech2, I am pretty sure that does not apply to me since not one step in this process has worked in DOSbox as I tried it.

Help please?

Thanks n_n

Well, first off the hook does not seem to work properly on vista/win7 for most people, so I would not bother with that at this point.
Second your description of going black and exiting... I cannot tell if you mean when you hit launch or when you open the program.
Bottom line is if it is when you hit launch it goes black and exits then you are plum outta luck with running it directly.
If it is when you start up the program then it means you patched it wrong.

To say much more than that I need to know the exact version of mech2 you are using.
Please refer to the picture list and tell me which version you have.

If indeed you have a version without dos on it then you have three choices.
A. Install vmware and 98 through that and play.
B. Dual Boot to 98 or XP.
C. Buy a version of mech2 which has dos on it.
