MW2:GBL, Essential Games Collection

As reported in this thread, MW2:31stCC (Essential Games Collection) also has DOS. MW2:GBL, Essential Games Collection is a Pentium Edition, it has MW2.EXE and MW2SHELL.EXE, but neither INSTALL.EXE or GBL.EXE which would be needed to run it as a DOS version. I made the following tests:
  • I copied GBL.EXE from my German DOS version into GBL's PE folder, then tried to run it with DosBox. The shell worked, but the game crashed when entering the sim.
  • I copied GBL PE's MW2.PRJ into a working DOS installation. Everything worked with minor display errors.
Does anybody have an idea where those missing GBL.EXE and INSTALL.EXE could be hiding? There is no DOS folder on the CD.

If we succeeded in downgrading all Pentum Edition CDs for DOS installs, would we be able to distribute the required files?

Well, I think we tried that in the past. It is possible to do that if I remember correctly, but I never pursued it as an option since it would require that we distributed mw2.exe, mech2.exe, and a few other files.
The copyright issue would come into play I think.... (Then again most of the files were in patches anyway, so it might be arguable that they already did that).

As for the missing GBL.EXE many times it is there renamed GBL._XE or something like that. I do not know in this case though.
I am pretty sure the pentium edition of GBL does not have DOS on it.

Edit: Come to think of it, one of the PRJ's might be incompatible with the other's. Probably 95 PRJ is incompatible with mech2 DOS since it has the NET.PRJ inside it as well. That is only an assumption though.
It may have been the DOS to 95 upgrade that was successful.

Thanks, MMPD, I'll see what I can do.
